We often put so much pressure on ourselves to start something new but often a very powerful thing is to stop overloading ourselves with unrealistic expectations and make changes that are sustainable.
Rather than start something new this January, have you thought about STOPPING something? Sometimes simply the act of stopping an unhelpful habit can create a new habit that’s actually beneficial to your health and quality of life.
The great news is that the most important building blocks of our health are all related to each other: food, sleep, exercise, mindset and nervous system are what we call the “five pillars of health” because focusing on any one of these areas will improve all the other areas and your overall health.
For example, the more you take exercise the more inclined you will be to choose healthy food, you will sleep more deeply and have a better mood. You don’t need to change everything at once, just take one small step. Even better, you don’t have to start something completely new but perhaps STOP doing something which is getting in the way of you taking good care of yourself. For example, when you stop looking at your smartphone all evening, you may get up and move around the house, actually talking to the people within it, building relationships, boosting everyone’s mood and sleeping more deeply as a result. It’s all about creating a positive spiral of events rather than a negative one.
Why will working on one of these areas really help me?
The reason we teach practice members about the 5 pillars of health is to give you the understanding and tools you need to be in control of your own health and create your own reality. By honoring these areas and prioritising your own health you will be better equipped to deal with the stresses of every day life without your health breaking down.
If you want to find out more about how you can take charge of your health and experience a much better quality of life with plenty of easy to implement take-home tips come along to our free “build your health workshop” which happens every third Monday and Wednesday of the month throughout the year.
